Yemeni Government Forces Repel Houthi Attacks in Taiz

The Yemeni Armed Forces repelled a series of Houthi Movement offensives on Thursday in the Taiz Governorate. Government troops thwarted assaults on the Al-Ahkoum front and cleared insurgents from the Hejat al-Abd mountain pass, a critical supply route connecting Taiz to the port city of Aden. Colonel Majid Al-Nuzaili reported that the operations resulted in dozens of militants killed or wounded and the destruction of enemy weaponry.

To maintain regional stability, military leadership deployed government troops across various positions in the Haifan district to counter further movements. These clashes follow a rapid Houthi Movement offensive along Yemen's western coast, during which the group seized the port of Mocha and extended control to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a strategic maritime chokepoint for global trade.

This escalation ends a period of relative stability established by a 2022 truce. The United Nations reports that the recent fighting has killed over 700 people, wounded thousands, and displaced nearly 130,000 people within Yemen, with more than 3,000 fleeing to Africa.
