South Korea Pension Fund Loses 182 Trillion Won in Equity
The National Pension Service of South Korea saw its equity stake value drop by 182 trillion won due to falling shares in major tech companies.
The National Pension Service of South Korea recorded a 182 trillion won ($137 billion) loss in the value of its equity stakes as of October 15. The decline was driven by falling share prices in major listed companies, specifically Samsung Electronics Co. and SK Hynix Inc.
Data from FnGuide indicates that the estimated value of the fund's stakes of 5% or more in 287 listed companies fell to 333.53 trillion won. This is a significant drop from the 515.93 trillion won valuation recorded at the end of June.
This downturn marks the first quarterly decline for the fund since the fourth quarter of 2024. The losses reverse the record-breaking returns the pension fund achieved during the first half of the year.
