Actor Dhanush Rebrands Fan Club as Welfare Movement

Actor Dhanush restructured his fan network into the Dhanush Narpani Iyakkam, sparking widespread speculation about a potential entry into Tamil Nadu politics.

Actor Dhanush has rebranded his fan association, the Dhanush Narpani Mandram, into a welfare movement called the Dhanush Narpani Iyakkam. The reorganization, which includes a new official logo and emblem, was formally approved in Coimbatore on October 14 and is currently establishing local units across five Assembly constituencies.

On Sunday, October 25, Dhanush met with approximately 3,000 women members and office-bearers of the movement at a private college in Chennai. During the gathering, he distributed silver lamps to supporters who had traveled from various districts, including Ranipet and Coimbatore. While Dhanush avoided direct questions about political ambitions and limited his remarks to Diwali greetings, the event fueled intense speculation regarding a political debut. Observers noted his traditional political attire and reports that the gifted lamps featured a lotus motif, the symbol of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Political reactions have been divided. The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam invited Dhanush to join their party, citing his popularity with youth. Conversely, the ruling Tamil Maanvan Kazhagam dismissed his potential influence, with General Secretary Aadhav Arjuna alleging that new political entrants are being backed by leadership in Delhi. The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee suggested the movement is part of a covert BJP and RSS strategy known as Operation D or Plan C to expand their footprint in the state.
