RJD and Congress Rift Deepens After Bihar Election Loss
The Rashtriya Janata Dal and Indian National Congress face internal collapse after the NDA won 202 seats in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.
The Grand Alliance of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Indian National Congress is facing a critical rift following a landslide defeat in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured 202 seats in the 243-member House, leaving the Opposition alliance with only 35 seats.
Tensions spiked after a Congress review meeting in Delhi, where party leaders reportedly blamed the RJD for the loss. RJD State President Mangani Lal Mandal responded by claiming the Congress party only wins seats due to RJD support. He suggested that if Congress wants to find its real strength, it should chart a different political course.
Congress leaders countered by questioning why the RJD would maintain an alliance with a partner it perceives as weak. While the RJD continues review meetings in Patna through December 9 and prepares for the December 1 legislative session, the public discord has led to speculation of a formal split. Senior BJP leader Syed Shahnawaz Hussain characterized the partnership as an unholy alliance based on political gain rather than ideology.
