UK Government Issues Annual £10 Christmas Bonus to Pensioners

The Department for Work and Pensions will distribute a £10 Christmas bonus to millions of eligible pensioners and benefit claimants in December.

The Department for Work and Pensions will distribute an annual £10 Christmas bonus to millions of eligible pensioners and benefit claimants. The one-off payment, which was introduced in 1972, is typically issued during the first full week of December to individuals receiving the State Pension, Personal Independence Payment, or Carer's Allowance, provided they also receive Universal Credit.

While the payment amount remains £10, it has not risen with inflation over the decades. Adjusted for inflation, the value of the bonus would exceed £180 this year.

The government also announced adjusted payment dates for the holiday period to ensure timely delivery. Payments originally due on December 25 or 28 will be issued on December 24, and payments due on January 1 will be paid on December 31.
