FCCPC Orders Withdrawal of Mislabelled Goods Across Nigeria
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission ordered the immediate removal of consumer goods with deceptive or incomplete labels from the Nigerian market.
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission ordered manufacturers, importers, distributors, and retailers across Nigeria to immediately withdraw consumer goods with incomplete, misleading, or deceptive labels from the market. In a public advisory issued on August 19, 2026, the commission reported that routine inspections and market surveillance revealed an increase in products lacking critical data, such as batch numbers, ingredient lists, allergen information, country-of-origin declarations, and production or expiry dates.
The commission stated that "Deceptive, incomplete, or misleading product labelling violates consumers’ right to the information required to make informed purchasing decisions and may expose them to significant health, safety, and economic risks." Businesses that fail to remove non-compliant products face regulatory enforcement action.
To strengthen nationwide consumer protection, the commission is coordinating these enforcement efforts with the Standards Organisation of Nigeria and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control.
