Linux Foundation Adopts AGNTCY to Standardize Agentic AI

The Linux Foundation adopted the AGNTCY project into its governance model on July 29, 2025, to standardize the foundational infrastructure for agentic AI. The project aims to establish an "Internet of Agents" by providing a neutral, community-driven layer for discovery, identity, messaging, and observability among AI agents from various vendors, thereby reducing industry fragmentation and vendor silos.

Originally open-sourced in March 2025 by Cisco's Outshift incubation unit in collaboration with LangChain and Galileo, AGNTCY now includes formative members such as Cisco, Dell Technologies, Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, and Red Hat. The framework ensures secure cross-platform collaboration and is interoperable with the Agent2Agent project and Anthropic's Model Context Protocol.

To support secure communications, the project utilizes the Secure Low Latency Interactive Messaging (SLIM) protocol, which provides quantum-safe capabilities. The transition to the Linux Foundation is intended to move the project away from vendor control toward a model of community ownership.
