Microsoft Updates Xbox PC App to Boost Launch Speeds
Microsoft is rolling out performance and interface overhauls for the Xbox PC app and cloud gaming services to reduce load times and standardize navigation.
Microsoft began rolling out a major performance and interface overhaul for the Xbox PC app, web experience, and cloud gaming services on November 5. The updates aim to standardize the Xbox interface across PC, web, smart TVs, and VR headsets while significantly reducing load times.
Internal testing shows the PC app now launches up to 60% faster, with startup times dropping from over 15 seconds to approximately 5.2 seconds. Store pages and Game Pass menus load roughly 50% quicker, and pop-up windows open up to 65% faster. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma stated the updates make the Windows experience "faster and more responsive."
Interface changes include a redesigned game library, a unified search bar for games and people, and the relocation of the friends list to the main navigation menu. For cloud gaming via play.xbox.com, the company is introducing a dedicated Library tab, a widescreen Desktop Mode, and high-contrast themes.
Xbox Insiders are currently testing the PC updates, while the refreshed web layout will roll out to the general public over the coming weeks. Microsoft has not yet confirmed a general release timeline for the PC app or the updates for TV and VR headsets.
