European Commission Reviews Antidumping Duties on Chinese Silicon Metal

The European Commission has formally initiated an interim review of antidumping duties on silicon metal imports from China. The investigation follows a request filed on July 8, 2026, by Euroalliages on behalf of the European Union silicon metal industry. The Commission will determine if Chinese imports are sold below fair value and if such pricing has caused material injury to EU producers.

Ferroglobe CEO Marco Levi described the review as a step toward restoring fair competition and securing a stable, domestic supply of critical materials. Levi noted that the European market is facing additional pressure as production shifts from China to Angola.

This regulatory action aligns with broader trade remedy trends, including European Union safeguards on manganese alloys and steel. It also mirrors recent United States duties imposed on silicon metal imports from Norway, Laos, Australia, and Angola.
