Nvidia Surges as Qualcomm and Broadcom Face Market Headwinds

Nvidia reports massive revenue growth while Qualcomm and Broadcom struggle with handset declines and disappointing guidance amid a semiconductor sector sell-off.

The semiconductor sector experienced a summer sell-off driven by mixed financial results and shifting corporate strategies. Nvidia Inc. emerged as the primary growth leader, reporting quarterly revenues of $96.2 billion, which marks a 106% increase year-over-year.

Other industry players faced significant volatility. Broadcom Inc. beat second-quarter 2026 earnings estimates, but its revenue guidance disappointed investors. Advanced Micro Devices attempted to capture more of the AI accelerator market by releasing the MI450 and Helios rack system, though its growth continues to lag behind Nvidia.

Qualcomm Inc. faced the steepest challenges, reporting a 9% annual shrink in handset revenue during the first nine months of fiscal 2026. This decline is exacerbated by Apple's transition to in-house smartphone modems, a move expected to halve Qualcomm's sales to Apple in the December quarter. In response, Qualcomm is pivoting its business model toward the automotive sector, the Internet of Things, and data center chips.
