India Denies US Travel Clearance for Telangana Chief Minister
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy canceled his United States tour after the Ministry of External Affairs denied political clearance for the visit.
The Ministry of External Affairs denied political clearance for A Revanth Reddy, the Chief Minister of Telangana, forcing the cancellation of the United States leg of his official international tour. The decision was communicated to Reddy after he had already arrived in London for an approved visit to the United Kingdom.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that the proposed US itinerary did not meet prescribed norms and was not appropriate for the office held or the purpose of the visit. In contrast, the Chief Minister's Office characterized the refusal as a political denial. Reddy asserted that the trip to Boston and New York was intended to bring world-renowned educational institutions to Hyderabad and Telangana as part of the New Education Policy.
While Reddy will return to Hyderabad from London, he has instructed state officials to proceed with the US tour to sign memorandums of understanding with institutions including Harvard and MIT. He continues his scheduled meetings with academic and sports institutions in the United Kingdom, including Oxford and Cambridge.
