Russia and Ukraine Launch Reciprocal Drone Strikes on Logistics

The Russian Ministry of Defense and Ukrainian forces conducted reciprocal drone campaigns targeting critical military logistics between July 26 and July 27, 2026. The operations focused on disrupting the transportation of fuel and weaponry essential for front-line troops.

Ukrainian drones first targeted a Russian freight train transporting fuel in the occupied Zaporizhzhia region. The strike ignited fuel tanks, producing thick black smoke and causing a temporary halt of rail traffic used to supply Russian forces in southern Ukraine. This operation aligned with a broader Ukrainian strategy to degrade Moscow's logistics linked to Crimea and the Sea of Azov.

In response, Russian forces launched a series of strikes against Ukrainian maritime hubs. On the night of July 26, drones hit two dry cargo ships in Mykolaiv, two bulk carriers at the mouth of the Dnipro-Bug River, a vessel south of Odesa, and a container terminal in Chornomorsk. Russian officials stated the attacks targeted ships unloading military equipment and Western supplies to degrade Ukrainian logistics hubs.
