Apple Inc. plans to launch Apple Pay in India by October 2026, initially supporting credit cards while seeking regulatory approval for UPI payments.

Apple Inc. plans to launch its digital payment service, Apple Pay, in India by October 2026. The service will initially support Visa and Mastercard credit cards, but it will not include support for Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions at launch.

To offer UPI payments, the company must obtain approval from the National Payments Corporation of India and secure a sponsoring bank. Apple is currently negotiating transaction fees with credit card issuers, requesting 15 to 20 basis points per payment. Some issuers are countering with a lower fee of 10 basis points.

These transaction fees will be paid by the banks. The company has indicated that these costs will not be passed on to merchants or customers.
