The Central Statistics Office Ireland reports annual consumer price inflation rose to 3.4 percent in August, driven primarily by a surge in energy costs.
Annual consumer price inflation in Ireland rose to 3.4 percent in August, increasing from 3.1 percent in July. Flash estimates from the Central Statistics Office Ireland show that prices jumped 0.6 percent between July and August, the fastest monthly increase since March.
Energy prices drove the acceleration, surging 4.3 percent in a single month and climbing 11.8 percent since August 2025. This trend contrasted with food prices, which fell 0.2 percent over the last month and rose only 0.1 percent over the past year.
When excluding energy and unprocessed food, year-on-year price growth slowed to 2.6 percent. These figures use the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices to facilitate comparisons across the euro zone, where the inflation rate stood at 2.9 percent for the period ending July 2026.
