Nvidia Prioritizes Low-VRAM GPUs Amid Memory Chip Shortage

Nvidia adjusted its supply strategy for the first quarter of 2026 to prioritize lower VRAM models in response to a memory chip shortage. Reports from the Board Channels forums indicate that the GeForce RTX 5060 (8GB), RTX 5060 Ti (8GB), and RTX 5070 (12GB) now account for approximately 75% of the total GPU supply for the quarter.

This strategic shift leaves only 25% of the allocation for high-end flagship models, including the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080. The move aligns with general consumer trends, as lower-tier GPUs typically generate higher sales volumes than premium SKUs.

ASUS clarified the status of the RTX 5070 Ti after previously suggesting the model had reached end-of-life status. The company stated the product is not discontinued, but its availability is restricted by the broader memory supply constraints affecting the industry.
