Sunil Mittal Urges Proactive AI Guardrails in India

Sunil Mittal warned that the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence is outpacing the ability of governments to establish necessary regulations. He stated that the movement of the technology is so fast that authorities are finding it difficult to catch up to implement oversight.

Mittal noted that the Government of India is currently issuing a consultation paper to determine how to implement guardrails for AI operations. He cited reports from technology founders regarding the possibility of AI agents running rogue, arguing that policymakers must secure the nation before accidents occur.

While cautioning against stifling growth, Mittal asserted that it would be foolish to allow the technology to proliferate without proactive oversight, rather than reacting after a failure has already happened.
