Walmart to Roll Out Tap-to-Pay Across U.S. Stores
Walmart will integrate contactless tap-to-pay options at its U.S. stores and Sam's Club warehouses starting August 24, 2026.
Walmart Inc. will begin integrating tap-to-pay options at its U.S. stores and Sam's Club warehouses starting August 24, 2026. The company expects the rollout to reach all stores and clubs by the end of the year, with fuel stations scheduled for upgrades by mid-2027.
This update allows customers to use eligible contactless cards, phones, and smartwatches, including Apple Pay and Google Pay. The company stated the move is intended to give customers and members more choice and make everyday shopping easier.
Walmart had previously resisted NFC-based payments to promote its proprietary Walmart Pay and Scan-and-Go services. While the company is now adopting industry-standard contactless methods, Walmart Pay will remain available as a payment option.
