The Federal Government of Germany is prepared to sign a submarine partnership agreement with India, pending final approvals from Indian authorities. German Ambassador to India Jasper Wieck described the arrangement as a technology partnership centered on domestic production and technology transfer within India, rather than a standard sale of vessels.
The project involves German defense company Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems and aims to strengthen India's maritime ecosystem. This initiative builds upon a strategic defense alignment established in August, when Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and German Federal Minister of Defence Boris Pistorius signed the Defence Industrial Cooperation Roadmap and an agreement for UN Peacekeeping Training during Singh's visit to Germany.
