GE Vernova Shares Rise as Blue Energy Files Texas Nuclear Permit

GE Vernova shares increased nearly 5% after Blue Energy applied for a permit to build a hybrid nuclear-gas power plant for AI data centers in Texas.

GE Vernova shares rose nearly 5% on Wednesday, diverging from a 0.5% slump in the S&P 500 index. The stock increase followed an announcement that nuclear energy developer Blue Energy submitted the initial part of a construction permit application to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission for a project in Texas.

The proposed facility will be a natural gas-and-nuclear power plant featuring the first small modular reactor designed specifically to supply power to artificial intelligence data centers in the region. GE Vernova is positioned to supply components for both the gas and nuclear assets of the facility, providing the nuclear components through a subsidiary.

While the Nuclear Regulatory Commission has not yet approved the application, the filing marks a significant step forward for the project. The development reinforces the role of GE Vernova as a supplier for energy technologies critical to the expansion of AI infrastructure.
