Pratt & Whitney Canada Unveils PT9 Turboprop Engine
Pratt & Whitney Canada introduced the PT9 turboprop engine in Las Vegas, offering increased power and reduced fuel consumption for multiple aircraft platforms.
Pratt & Whitney Canada unveiled the PT9 turboprop engine on Wednesday at the NBAA-BACE convention in Las Vegas. The engine has received certification from Transport Canada and is designed to deliver 33% more power at altitude while reducing fuel consumption by 20% compared to previous-generation models.
With an output range of 1,700 to 2,300 shaft horsepower, the PT9 is positioned between the PT6 and PW100 engine families. The company is currently seeking additional certifications from the Federal Aviation Administration and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency to expand its regulatory approval.
While the manufacturer has not yet named a launch customer or a specific aircraft application, officials stated they are in discussions with manufacturers to support multiple platforms. Production for the engine family will be based at the company's facility in Lethbridge, Alberta.
