Indian Chief Ministers Launch Women-Centric Initiatives for Raksha Bandhan

Chief Ministers across three Indian states launched various development and financial initiatives for women on August 27 to coincide with the Raksha Bandhan festival.

In Gujarat, Bhupendra Patel allocated 28 crore rupees as a special development grant for road and infrastructure projects. The funding provides 2 crore rupees to each of the 14 women members of the State Legislative Assembly, including nine urban and five rural MLAs, to improve local connectivity and ease of movement within their constituencies.

In Delhi, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta celebrated the festival with school children and distributed approval letters to the first 2,500 beneficiaries of the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana. Launched on August 1, the scheme provides eligible women with monthly financial assistance of 2,500 rupees via Direct Benefit Transfer; over 922,000 women have registered for the program to date.

Meanwhile, Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced a solar energy initiative for approximately 10 lakh Jeevika Didis. Utilizing the Prime Minister Surya Ghar scheme, the government will install solar panels at the homes of these women to eliminate electricity costs and create new income opportunities.
