UN Report Finds 82 Percent of Gaza Buildings Damaged

The United Nations Satellite Centre reports that Israeli forces damaged 82 percent of buildings in Gaza and continue demolitions in the West Bank.

A study by the United Nations Satellite Centre reveals that Israeli forces damaged approximately 82 percent of all buildings in the Gaza Strip between October 7, 2023, and June 16, 2026. Data from the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics indicates that 201,290 buildings were affected, with 134,422 completely destroyed. The conflict displaced 2.15 million Palestinians and decimated roughly 90 percent of the enclave's infrastructure, including water and wastewater systems.

Despite a ceasefire that began on October 10, 2025, the Palestinian Health Ministry reports that subsequent Israeli attacks killed 1,445 people and injured 5,072 others. Military activity has also extended to the West Bank, where wide-scale assaults began in January 2025 targeting refugee camps in Jenin, Nur Shams, and Tulkarm.

On Monday, the Israeli army used heavy machinery to demolish a 130-square-meter home housing two families in Khallet al-Deirat, near Hebron. Military forces cited a lack of building permits for the property. Homeowner Faris Mohammed stated that Palestinians are routinely denied such permits despite long-term residency. Official Palestinian figures show Israel conducted 341 demolition operations involving 740 structures during the first half of 2026.
