Memory Chip Prices Jump 20 Percent Amid AI Demand

Memory chip prices rose nearly 20 percent in the third quarter of 2026 due to severe supply shortages and high demand for AI applications.

Memory chip prices increased by nearly 20 percent quarter-over-quarter during the third quarter of 2026. According to data from Bernstein, the price surge affected both conventional DRAM and NAND contract prices, driven by unrelenting demand from artificial intelligence applications and severe supply shortages.

While the rate of increase narrowed compared to the second quarter, the research firm expects supply constraints to drive further price hikes in the fourth quarter of 2026 and into 2027. AI-driven demand continues to outpace available supply, creating mounting cost pressures for both AI and non-AI applications.

Bernstein suggests that the potential for future increases may be limited by heavy cost burdens and price caps established in long-term agreements.
