Sadyr Japarov Urges SCO to Prioritize Preventive Diplomacy

President Sadyr Japarov called on the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation to strengthen preventive diplomacy and support the United Nations' central role in global coordination.

President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov urged the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) to adopt a more active role in preventing global political crises during an SCO Plus format meeting in Bishkek. Japarov emphasized the necessity of preventive diplomacy to resolve political disagreements before they escalate into armed conflicts, characterizing the SCO as an influential platform for cooperation developed over the last 25 years.

During the meeting, which marked the conclusion of Kyrgyzstan's chairmanship of the SCO, Japarov called on member states to reaffirm the central coordinating role of the United Nations. He stated that this support is essential given the profound changes occurring in the modern system of international relations. The discussions focused on the UN as a key element of a just world order and the contribution of SCO Plus states toward forming a multipolar world.

Japarov also urged participating states to strengthen joint efforts to combat extremism, terrorism, drug trafficking, and transnational organized crime. He concluded by emphasizing a shared responsibility among the states to shape a sustainable and equitable global order.
