Dangote Cement Targets 80 Million Tonne Capacity by 2030

Dangote Cement Plc unveiled a sustainability strategy to reduce carbon emissions by 20 percent and expand production capacity into Botswana and Zimbabwe by 2030.

Dangote Cement Plc unveiled its 2025 Sustainability scorecard during its 17th Annual General Meeting in Lagos, outlining a strategy to align with the Dangote Industries Limited Vision 2030. The company aims to increase installed production capacity to 80 million tonnes per annum by 2030, with planned expansions into Botswana and Zimbabwe and infrastructure enhancements at the Apapa, Onne, and Lekki ports.

As part of an Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy, the company targets a 20 percent reduction in net carbon dioxide emissions intensity. Current progress shows a 6.5 percent reduction from a 2021 baseline, alongside decreased energy and water consumption. The decarbonization plan includes introducing electric trucks in 2026 and transitioning all Nigerian fleet trucks, excluding those at the Gboko plant, to Compressed Natural Gas by 2027.

Additional initiatives include the DangCircular program, which co-processed over 437,000 tonnes of waste as alternative fuel, and the Dangote Tree-to-Forest Programme to afforest 200 hectares in each operating country over five years. The company also reported investing 2.1 billion naira in employee training, implementing an Artificial Intelligence Risk Management Policy, and integrating 297 local vendors into its ESG supply chain programme.
