Hyundai Motor India Hits Record Sales in September 2026
Hyundai Motor India achieved record monthly sales of 77,916 units in September, while Mahindra & Mahindra reported a 15% increase in total vehicle sales.
The Indian automobile sector saw broad-based growth in September 2026, with Hyundai Motor India achieving its highest-ever monthly total sales of 77,916 units. This figure represents a 10.8% year-on-year increase and surpasses the company's previous record set in July 2026, comprising 57,166 domestic units and 20,750 exports.
Mahindra & Mahindra also reported strong performance, with total vehicle sales rising 15% year-on-year to 114,874 units. This growth was supported by a 14% increase in both domestic utility vehicle and domestic commercial vehicle sales. The company further noted it has crossed 100,000 billings for its Electric Origin SUVs since their launch.
Earlier projections from Jefferies indicated a general upward trend in vehicle registrations, with passenger vehicles and two-wheelers seeing year-on-year increases of 78% and 75% respectively during the first 25 days of the month. However, tractor registrations lagged with only 4% growth. Jefferies noted that the overall growth was partly boosted by a low base from September 2025, which had been impacted by a GST cut and the timing of an inauspicious period.
