JPMorgan Chase Appoints Rob Sweeney to Lead Investment Banking

JPMorgan Chase hired Rob Sweeney as global chair of investment banking to drive growth in the consumer and retail sectors amid a rebounding dealmaking market.

JPMorgan Chase appointed Rob Sweeney as global chair of investment banking to advise major corporate clients, specifically within the consumer and retail sectors. Sweeney, a former executive at Goldman Sachs and Sycamore, will also support the bank's security and resilience initiatives.

This hire is part of a larger expansion strategy to capture a greater share of a recovering dealmaking market. The bank has hired more than 1,000 bankers globally this year and recently added other senior leaders, including Amy Lissauer as global head of shareholder activism and Michael Flynn as head of small-cap investment banking.

The growth push follows a 30% year-over-year increase in investment banking fees during the second quarter, marking the highest level since 2021. Co-President Doug Petno projected that third-quarter investment banking fees would rise by a mid-to-high teens percentage.
