Oman and Islamic Nations Condemn Colombia's Golan Heights Recognition

The Government of Oman, Türkiye, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned Colombia's August 11, 2026, decision to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights. The condemning parties characterized the move as a flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter and international law.

Oman's Foreign Ministry specifically cited UN Security Council Resolution 497 of 1981, asserting that the Golan Heights remain occupied Syrian territory. Similarly, the GCC and OIC asserted that the region is an integral part of Syria and called on the Colombian government to withdraw its recognition.

GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Al Budaiwi and OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha urged Israel to comply with international resolutions by withdrawing from all occupied Arab territories. Syria also denounced the Colombian statement as a violation of international law. The collective response emphasizes a regional and international insistence on the territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic.
