The company is diverting import shipments, including the vessel Medkon Mira, to Constanta, Romania. This decision follows intensified Russian missile and drone attacks on maritime export routes, including strikes on fuel storage and the bulk carrier Golden Rose. A.P. Møller - Maersk is the second major company to halt Chornomorsk operations this month, following Kernel Holding.
The Ministry of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine clarified that while A.P. Møller - Maersk stopped services at one specific terminal, the broader Chornomorsk seaport and the Greater Odesa area remain operational. The ministry noted that the state-owned Chornomorsk Commercial Sea Port and the Chornomorsk Fishery Port are separate operators, meaning the overall port complex continues to export goods via the Ukrainian Maritime Corridor.
Russian officials claim their strikes target military cargo and fuel. Simultaneously, Ukraine has escalated its own campaign in the Black Sea and Sea of Azov to isolate Crimea, reportedly striking over 150 vessels in two weeks, including the coal carrier Reyhan Sari. These escalating maritime attacks have led to increased insurance premiums and may shift grain exports toward the Danube river.
