Sudanese Refugees Face Dire Conditions in Central African Republic

Sudanese refugees in the Korsi camp struggle with displacement and loss as the civil war between the RSF and government army continues.

Thousands of Sudanese refugees are residing in the Korsi refugee camp in the Central African Republic, fleeing a brutal civil war that erupted in April 2023. The conflict pits the Rapid Support Forces, led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, against the Sudanese government army under Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.

Displaced persons in the camp report severe losses from violence in West Darfur. In one instance, a refugee named Samira lost her husband and two daughters to the conflict and suffered the loss of an arm and an eye from an artillery shell strike in Nyala. The humanitarian crisis has been exacerbated by the fall of El Fasher in October 2025, which followed a siege and the massacre of civilians by RSF militiamen.

Refugees currently rely on the World Food Programme for monthly food rations and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees for shelter materials. As the rainy season approaches, many face precarious living conditions and are considering further displacement to Cameroon to find safety, while maintaining a hope of returning to Darfur if peace is restored.
