South Carolina Bar & Tavern Association Urges DUI Law Reform

The South Carolina Bar & Tavern Association has called on members of the state legislature to pass S.52, a bill intended to modernize the state's DUI laws. Executive Director Christopher Smith stated that the legislation would strengthen penalties for repeat offenders, expand the use of ignition interlock devices, and improve the process of evidence collection.

The association argues that the responsibility for impaired driving should rest with the individual driver instead of the hospitality businesses that serve alcohol. These proposed reforms are designed to support prosecutors and law enforcement while increasing overall public safety on South Carolina highways.
