Election Commission Extends Voter Roll Revision Deadlines Across India

The Election Commission of India extended Special Intensive Revision deadlines in multiple states to ensure maximum voter inclusion and complete the digitization of electoral rolls.

The Election Commission of India extended the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across several states and union territories between July 14 and July 16, 2026. The extensions aim to ensure maximum voter inclusion and provide additional time for the digitization of enumeration forms. In Andhra Pradesh and Haryana, the deadline for house-to-house verification by Booth Level Officers was pushed from July 14 to July 24, with final rolls scheduled for October 3. Similar extensions were later granted for Punjab and Telangana, with final publication set for October 12, and for Delhi and Karnataka, scheduled for October 19.

In Delhi, officials report that enumeration forms have reached 99.55% of the 1.45 crore electors, though only 17.94% have been digitized. During the process, officials identified nearly 2 lakh voters as absent, dead, or duplicates. To support the effort, the commission approved a one-time honorarium of Rs 6,000 for Booth Level Officers and their supervisors.

The process has faced challenges in Punjab, where the Bharatiya Janata Party requested an investigation into alleged irregularities. The party claimed officials were using the revision to promote government welfare schemes and demanding unauthorized documents from tenants. These revisions are part of Phase 3 of the SIR rollout; once complete, the exercise will cover the entire country except for Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
