U.S. Sanctions Force Envioscuba.com to Halt Operations in Cuba

Envioscuba.com stopped accepting new orders for deliveries to Cuba following increased U.S. sanctions targeting the Cuban government and its military-run business conglomerate.

The delivery platform Envioscuba.com has ceased accepting new orders for money, food, and clothing shipments to Cuba, citing reasons beyond its control. While the company will fulfill existing orders, the shutdown is a direct result of increased pressure from the Trump administration, which implemented sanctions targeting the Cuban government and its business interests.

U.S. sanctions specifically target President Miguel Diaz-Canel, the state-owned oil and gas company, and Grupo de Administración Empresarial S.A. (GAESA), a conglomerate run by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba. Because Envioscuba.com and similar portals utilize GAESA warehouses to deliver products on the island, they face risks of asset freezes, travel prohibitions for investors, and exclusion from the U.S. financial system.

The withdrawal of the delivery platform mirrors a broader trend of international businesses leaving the island. The Spanish hotel chain Meliá Hotels International announced it will close 15 of its 34 hotels in Cuba. These economic pressures coincide with severe shortages of food and medicine and frequent power outages currently affecting Cuban citizens.
