Sarah McBride Wins Reelection to Delaware House Seat
Democratic Congresswoman Sarah McBride defeated Republican Joseph Arminio to secure a second term representing Delaware in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Sarah McBride won reelection to Delaware's sole seat in the U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday, defeating Republican challenger Joseph Arminio. The victory secures a second term for the first openly transgender member of Congress, whose campaign focused on manufacturing jobs, healthcare access, infrastructure, and affordability.
During her first term, McBride introduced legislation targeting small business tax credits for disability accommodations, standardized holiday pay, paid family leave, and biotechnology education. She also attempted to persuade Republican colleagues to oppose a bill that would criminalize gender-affirming care for minors, though the legislation ultimately passed.
McBride's tenure included a public confrontation with House Speaker Mike Johnson, who barred transgender individuals from using restrooms aligned with their gender identity in House-controlled spaces. Regarding the incident, McBride stated that calling it a "bathroom controversy" feels cheap and that the situation was more significant than that label suggests.
