BJP Protests Karnataka Government Over Ganeshotsava Restrictions

Karnataka Leader of Opposition R Ashoka led protests and a dharna in T Narasipura demanding the immediate suspension of Police Inspector Dhananjay. Ashoka accused the Congress-led state government of harassing devotees during Ganeshotsava celebrations by imposing one-sided restrictions on dancing, firecrackers, and loudspeakers, particularly near mosques in T Narasipura, Maddur, and Kolar. He specifically cited a viral video in which Inspector Dhananjay allegedly threatened Ganesha Pooja Samiti members, calling the officer's behavior that of a "goon."

Chief Minister D K Shivakumar denied the allegations, asserting that the government encourages the festival and has declared a public holiday. Shivakumar accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of using "anti-social elements" to provoke communal unrest under the guise of religious celebrations. While Mysuru Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baladandi defended the police actions as simple requests for information to ensure public safety, BJP leaders including Pratap Simha vowed to continue protests day and night until the inspector is removed.

Ashoka rejected police assurances that action against the inspector would take several days, characterizing the administration's approach as "Taliban-style" rule. He challenged the Chief Minister to demonstrate his faith by suspending the officer and vowed to hold processions in banned areas to protest the government's stance.
