INEC Publishes Preliminary Voter Register Online for 2027 Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission published the preliminary voter register online to increase accessibility after missing a statutory deadline.

The Independent National Electoral Commission published the preliminary register of voters for the 2027 general election online following demands from Nigerians and other stakeholders. The commission had previously conducted a physical display of the register at registration areas across the country from October 9 to 15, 2026, but failed to meet the October 18 statutory deadline for online publication required by Section 19(1) of the Electoral Act 2026.

The current register includes 103.43 million voters, with the largest demographic being those aged 35–49, who make up 41.83% of the total. The commission described the online publication as an additional measure to improve transparency and public access.

INEC is now processing claims and objections. The final register of voters is scheduled for certification and publication on December 15, 2026, ahead of the general elections starting January 16, 2027.
