Sweden Economic Confidence Hits Four-Year High in August
Sweden's economic confidence rose for the fourth straight month in August, driven by strong gains in the services and retail sectors.
Economic confidence in Sweden reached its highest level in more than four years during August 2026. According to data from the National Institute of Economic Research, the economic tendency index climbed to 105.1, up from 104.6 in July, marking the fourth consecutive monthly increase.
The growth was primarily fueled by the services sector, which rose to 104.2, and a surge in retail confidence. The retail confidence indicator reached 114.2, the highest level since early 2022, supported by positive signals in the trade of durable consumer goods. Consumer confidence also improved to 98.0 as households reported more positive views regarding the current state and future outlook of the national economy.
While the overall trend remained positive, some sectors saw slight declines. Manufacturing morale dipped slightly and confidence in the construction sector eased, although construction levels remained within a normal range.
