Marine Le Pen Leads Polls for 2027 French Presidency

Far-right leader Marine Le Pen maintains a significant lead in polling for the April 2027 French presidential election. A Toluna-Harris Interactive poll shows Le Pen leading with 35% to 38% of the vote in the first round, holding a roughly 20-point advantage over her nearest competitors.

Far-left leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon formally launched his fourth presidential campaign on August 23, 2026. Polling indicates Mélenchon would qualify for the runoff in three of five tested scenarios, typically polling between 16% and 17%. However, the data suggests Le Pen would decisively defeat him in a head-to-head runoff, with victory estimates ranging from 64% to 68%.

During a summer conference in Châteauneuf-sur-Isère, Mélenchon advocated for a citizens' revolution and an ecological state to combat the climate crisis and the dictatorship of shareholders. He proposed ecological conscription to create a mass reserve and called for a confrontational approach to U.S. foreign policy.

The left remains deeply divided, with the New Popular Front coalition fracturing. Raphaël Glucksmann has launched a social-democratic bid, while both Mélenchon and Socialist Party leader Olivier Faure have ruled out backing a single joint candidate. Centrist candidate Édouard Philippe warned that a runoff between the far-right and far-left is a real and serious risk.
