OpenAI expanded its ChatGPT Ads service to 26 additional countries, bringing the total number of active markets to 89.
OpenAI expanded its ChatGPT Ads service to 26 additional countries on Wednesday, increasing its total market reach to 89 countries. The rollout includes markets such as Argentina, Peru, Nigeria, South Africa, and Ukraine, specifically targeting free users and Go subscribers. The company stated that ads are clearly labeled and do not influence the chatbot's responses to user prompts.
The advertising unit has experienced rapid financial growth, jumping from a $100 million annualized revenue run rate in March to $1 billion in August. More than 100,000 advertisers now use the platform. This revenue diversification comes as OpenAI prepares for a potential initial public offering in 2027.
Competitor Anthropic has responded by pledging to keep its Claude chatbot ad-free. Anthropic has integrated OpenAI's advertising push into its own marketing campaigns to differentiate its product offering.
