Drone Dominance Renders Western Tanks Unusable in Ukraine

Western-made tanks, including German Leopard models, have become largely unusable on the Ukrainian battlefield. The 33rd Separate Mechanized Brigade reports that these expensive armored vehicles now mostly sit idle in forests under camouflage netting to avoid detection by cheap drones. In some instances, the tanks are relegated to serving as high-cost tractors to tow damaged equipment during poor weather.

This shift in warfare led to a strategic clash that resulted in the removal of Oleksandr Syrskyi from his command last month. While some commanders maintain live-fire training and seek technological solutions such as AI-driven protective domes, many crews are retraining as drone operators. Some soldiers within the brigade argue that the era of manned tanks has ended and that any future for armor will be unmanned.
