China Scales Embodied AI and Humanoid Robot Production

The Government of China has designated embodied artificial intelligence, robotics, and 6G as primary engines for economic growth in its five-year plan beginning in 2026. This national strategy is supported by over 24,000 companies across industrial clusters in the Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta, and Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei regions.

Industrial applications focus on replacing humans in dangerous environments. RobotPlusPlus developed a 90-kilogram magnetically adhered climbing robot for welding and rust removal on ship hulls and chemical tanks, utilizing an AI model trained on 100,000 operational hours. Other specialized deployments include subsea cable detection robots operating at 300-meter depths and smart grain-leveling robots for agricultural silos.

Humanoid robotics have moved toward mass production. AgiBot produced its 10,000th humanoid robot in March 2026, drastically reducing unit costs from over one million yuan to under 200,000 yuan. In April, the company's Genie G2 models completed an eight-hour assembly line shift in Nanchang. Meanwhile, the EngineAI T800 humanoid robot was deployed for police patrols in Shenzhen during International Workers' Day celebrations.

Service-sector integration is also expanding. The platform 58.com launched a robot-assisted cleaning service in March that uses wheeled robots to handle roughly 30 percent of cleaning workloads. Additional demonstrations include rubbish-picking robots by X Square Robot in Beijing.
