Asda Recalls Three Handbag Models Over Chemical Safety Risks

Asda is recalling three handbag models after finding excessive concentrations of harmful phthalates that violate chemical safety regulations.

Retailer Asda Stores Limited has recalled three handbag models—the Front Pocket Xbody Bag, the Opp Tote Bag, and the Black Nylon Phone Bag—due to a serious chemical risk. The company determined that the products contain excessive concentrations of Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), which means the product "does not meet the requirements of the REACH Regulations."

The Office for Product Safety and Standards issued a warning that phthalates are harmful to health and may cause damage to the reproductive system, specifically noting risks to children's health. The regulator recommended that consumers stop using the products immediately.

Asda has instructed customers to return the affected bags to any store for a full refund. The retailer confirmed that shoppers do not need to provide a receipt to receive their money back.
