Micron Taoyuan Employees Approve Strike Over Bonus Dispute
Micron employees in Taoyuan, Taiwan, voted to authorize a strike after failing to reach an agreement on profit-sharing and bonus schemes.
A union representing employees of Micron Technology in Taoyuan, Taiwan, has secured member approval to strike following a dispute over the company's bonus structure. Approximately 1,994 members, representing 99% of those who voted, backed the action after mediation efforts ended without an agreement in September.
The union is demanding the establishment of a permanent profit-sharing mechanism. Labor representatives criticized the company for announcing a global reward package during active mediation, which included a cash bonus of approximately TWD 1 million for staff based in Taiwan.
Micron employs roughly 15,000 people in Taiwan, with unions in Taoyuan and Taichung representing over 80% of the workforce. While the Taoyuan workers have authorized a strike, negotiations with the Taichung union remain ongoing. The labor conflict emerges as the company reports record fourth-quarter fiscal revenue of USD 54.2 billion.
