BC Partners Leads Investment Group to Save LIV Golf
BC Partners is leading a group of investors to provide a financial lifeline to LIV Golf after its Saudi Arabian backer withdrew support.
A credit arm of BC Partners is leading a group of investors in negotiations to provide a financial lifeline to LIV Golf. The league has spent several months seeking new funding after the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia withdrew its support. This capital injection follows a period of instability where LIV Golf had prepared for a potential bankruptcy filing in the United States as recently as May.
LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil announced that the board has approved a signed agreement with a lead investor. O’Neil stated that the league is currently seeing interest from more than a dozen additional parties interested in serving as minority investors.
Terms are expected to be finalized in the coming weeks to complete the transaction in September. O’Neil indicated that the next phase of the league's strategy will prioritize a model where players serve as majority equity owners.
