Finland Warns of Increased Russian Sabotage Threats in Europe

The Finnish Security and Intelligence Service (Supo) warned on September 28, 2026, that the threat of Russian sabotage across Europe has increased over the summer. Teemu Liikkanen, Supo's head of counterintelligence, stated that while there is no indication of immediate danger in Finland, the country must remain prepared. He noted that there is "no reason to panic or become fearful," but emphasized that "we need to be prepared and ready."

Potential targets in Finland include the defense industry and entities supporting Ukraine. This warning follows a suspected Russian arson attack on a Starlink satellite station in Poland last week. Experts suggest Moscow aims to create divisions among Western nations and erode support for Ukraine, though they do not believe Russia intends to initiate direct military action against NATO.

President Alexander Stubb has urged Finnish citizens to prepare themselves mentally for potential acts of sabotage. Liikkanen further cautioned against escalation, stating, "We should not go down that road."
