SK Hynix Considers Memory Chip Plant in Miyagi Japan
SK Hynix is evaluating a multi-trillion won investment to build a memory chip plant in Japan's Miyagi prefecture to meet rising global demand.
SK Hynix is considering the construction of a memory chip plant in Japan's Miyagi prefecture to expand its production capacity. The investment, which could reach tens of trillions of won, would mark the first large-scale semiconductor manufacturing investment in Japan by a South Korean chipmaker.
SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won recently visited the region, which is a designated semiconductor industry hub. The move comes as the company seeks to respond to increasing global demand for memory chips.
While the company has not reached a final decision, SK Hynix stated that any location with the necessary infrastructure could be a potential candidate for the facility.
