Gujarat Chief Minister Seeks Tech Investment in US and Canada
Bhupendra Patel met with tech leaders and the Gujarati diaspora in North America to attract investment for the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2027.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel led a high-level delegation to the United States and Canada from August 19 to 21, 2026, to secure strategic partnerships and investments ahead of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit in January 2027. The mission focused on positioning Gujarat as a global hub for semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and biotechnology.
In San Francisco, Patel met with over 100 leaders from the DeepTech, EdTech, and gaming sectors. He held strategic discussions with Google regarding AI training for educators and youth, and with Perplexity AI to explore the establishment of data centers and research facilities. Micron Technology CEO Sanjay Mehrotra praised the state's rapid land approval for the company's Sanand facility, while Patel highlighted Sanand and Dholera as emerging semiconductor centers.
Moving to Washington, D.C., Patel met with Walmart Executive Vice-President Dan Bryant to create a roadmap for integrating Gujarat's micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and artisans into global supply chains. He also addressed the Gujarati diaspora at an event hosted by the Vishv Umiya Foundation, urging investment in GIFT City and other emerging sectors. Patel credited the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the state's financial discipline and governance.
The delegation, which included Chief Secretary M.K. Das and Additional Chief Secretary Mamta Verma, concluded its U.S. itinerary with visits to Washington and New York before traveling to Toronto to continue the outreach effort.
