Marvell Technology Shares Rise on New 2nm Optical Tech

Marvell Technology shares rose 5.4% following the announcement of new 2nm optical technologies, despite recent valuation-driven volatility and a massive $120 billion Google contract.

Marvell Technology shares rose 5.4% to $257.38 on September 21, 2026, after the company announced it would showcase industry-first 2nm optical technologies at the European Conference on Optical Communication. These demonstrations include 400G-per-lane optical PAM4 technology and a co-packaged optics platform designed to increase connection speeds between AI accelerators and memory while reducing power consumption.

The stock has experienced significant volatility throughout 2026, surging nearly 190% since the start of the year due to strong quarterly results and demand for custom AI processors. However, shares recently declined 20.64% over a three-month period, falling from $307.78 to $244.25. Analysts attribute this pullback to profit-taking and valuation concerns, as the stock has traded at more than 80 times its trailing earnings.

Fundamental growth remains strong, with the company reporting 37% revenue growth in its most recent quarter and a 46% increase in data center sales. Marvell secured a six-year, $120 billion contract with Google, which could add $18 billion to its annual revenue. This partnership includes a warrant allowing Google to acquire up to 7% of Marvell shares based on revenue milestones. The company also supplies components for Amazon and expects to ramp up custom processor shipments to Microsoft starting in 2027. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has suggested the chipmaker could eventually become a trillion-dollar company.
