EnerVenue Starts Battery Mass Production in Changzhou China

EnerVenue began mass production of nickel-hydrogen batteries at its first manufacturing facility in Changzhou, China, on September 22, 2026. The plant is approximately 95% automated and is expected to employ 400 workers by the end of the year.

The company previously announced plans in 2023 to build a $264 million factory in Kentucky that would have created 450 jobs, but it abandoned that project a year later. Chief Executive Henning Rath stated the decision to build in China was driven by the region's industrial cluster of automation specialists and supply chain depth. He noted that proving the manufacturing process at a commercial scale would be difficult with available capital elsewhere.

Founded by Stanford professor Yi Cui, the company utilizes NASA technology for its battery production. EnerVenue plans to expand into North America, Europe, and the Middle East starting in 2028, though Rath indicated that the establishment of a US plant depends on future legislation and regulation.
