Microsoft Purchases 600 Acres for Woodward Data Center
Microsoft purchased 600 acres in Woodward for a new data center campus following a community meeting restricted to local residents.
Microsoft purchased approximately 600 acres in the Woodward Eco Business Park to develop a new data center campus. Mayor Todd Folkerts and company officials announced the acquisition during a community conversation on October 13, 2026, at Woodward-Granger High School.
The announcement sparked controversy when city officials required attendees to present photo identification or proof of residency to enter the meeting. This policy resulted in the exclusion of members of the press and non-residents.
Microsoft representatives stated the facility will use a closed-loop cooling system to prevent impacts on the local water supply. To protect residential electricity rates, the company intends to purchase power from a wholesaler. Construction cannot begin until the Woodward City Council approves a site plan and a development agreement.
